Guttled!

Current Netflix rental:
Walk the Line

Also, current Guardian Angell rental (Thanks, Johnny):
Kung Fu Hustle (edited version)

So, the Guardian Angell place rents "cleaned up" movies. I don't really have the attention span to watch movies lately. I prefer the instant gratification of the thirty-minute sitcom (with a laugh track, so that I know when to laugh).

Verb: guttle /gútl/
Eat greedily- devour, raven, pig
Derived forms: guttled, guttles, guttling
Type of:
eat

Today's words of the day for Pauline and Kimberly were: guttle and ereption and some other words I can't remember. Those are some high-brow words we picked up from The Superior Person's Book of Words. Guttle is a great one for me, considering what I did last night. I had dinner with my sisters and three friends. My good friends Carmen and Emily came over, bearing food, and we had an early Thanksgiving. It felt like Thanksgiving--a great holiday--with good company and good food. Emily had a gift card for the Glazed Honey Ham, Co. of the great Lubbock, Texas. She was generous enough to share her bounty with us for multiple meals. Sunday dinner was ham, mashed potatoes, corn casserole, &c. Last night for our May Thanksgiving we had turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls, plus the leftovers from Sunday night. It was really yummy. Then for dessert we ate Tres Leches cake and had root beer floats with both vanilla and chocolate ice cream. For those of you who have not yet tried a root beer float with chocolate ice cream, you don't know what you're missing!

After dinner, we all had the "fat happies," as Emily said. The next morning I really did have that post-holiday food hangover that I get after Christmas and Thanksgiving. Maybe this only happens to me, but even my fingers feel swollen after that much caloric goodness. Also, unfortunately, there wasn't any yummy-looking food in the house tonight, so I again made friends with the Tres Leches cake. Thanksgiving may be my new favorite holiday. One just eats and spends quality time with friends and family and ponders on all the cool stuff in her life. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Mayday

Current Netflix rental:
Walk the Line

Tonight I woke up in the middle of the night because I'm used to going to bed in the middle of the night, as of late. What else was there to do but touch up my toenail polish and update my blog? By the way, don't buy Maybelline Express Finish nail polish. It is terrible. I can't find my favorite L'Oréal Jet Set anywhere. Rather, I haven't yet found it. It wasn't at the Boston Ave United nor at Target.

Guess what! I received the most exciting news ever. My baby sister, Wendy, is the valedictorian of her high school class. Isn't that fabulous? I found out over dinner last night, and I can't believe she waited until dessert to tell all of us. How could she keep it a secret? Not that we were surprised, either, but we did do some cheering. Wendy is cool and nonchalant about everything, though. She will kill me for posting this picture, but it's so funny.

Everything but the...™

Current Netflix rental:
Walk the Line

I decided to treat myself to my favorite ice cream this afternoon. I figured I deserved it after the heckuva week I've had. My very favoritist ice cream flavor is Ben & Jerry's® Everything but the...™ Unfortunately, I won't be able to get this flavor locally anymore. United has stopped carrying it in their stores. I don't know if Ben & Jerry sent it to the flavor graveyard or not, but United doesn't have it. I had to buy every last pint they had. Unfortunately, at the time I was stocking my cart full of ice cream, I ran into someone I knew, but that's another story. (I didn't get to be this size on veggies, people!)

It's going to be a sad day when I pop the top on the last pint of that goodness. Allow me to tell you what is in this ice cream (from the carton description):

Vanilla HEATH® Bar Crunch/New York Super Fudge Chunk™/Peanut Butter Cup™
A Collision of Chocolate Ice Cream & Vanilla Ice Cream mixed with HEATH Bar Chunks, White Chocolatey Chunks, Peanut Butter Cups & Chocolatey-Covered Almonds

Busting the Myths...

Current Netflix rental:
waiting on Walk the Line

That was surreal. The local Fox affiliate just stuck a two-minute Friends clip in the middle of Frasier. I am home alone and feeling like channel surfing. Howie Mandel was on Jay Leno. Yikes! He is my pet peeve. Usually, pet peeves aren't human, but that one is.

What is happening on Will and Grace and does anyone care? It looks like Grace is pregnant in the previews I've seen. I know the show is wrapping up. Can someone fill me in before the series finale?

Since I'm apparently such a TV junkie, I waited in line over an hour to see Mythbusters (a la Discovery Channel) Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman in person at Texas Tech. It was a free little show in the Student Union ballroom, as long as you had a Tech ID. We're such rebels that we sneaked my high school-age siblings in with IDs that didn't belong to them. There was only space for 750 people, and I think there must have been twice that many in line. Insane! The show was fun. I really like their TV show. Also, there was a microphone going around for audience members to ask questions. First guy to ask a question...asks his girlfriend to marry him. He plops right down on one knee and pulls out the ring and pops the question. It was cute if you like that kind of thing.

I taught the Cub Scouts Bear Pack tonight. I don't know if I'm the den mother type. We learned about geography. I thought it was fun. Maybe we should expect that from someone bloggin' and channel surfin' at midnight. Tsk tsk. Good night.

This Is a Very Solemn Occasion

Current Netflix rental:
Beyond the Sea

I've had that stupid movie for a month trying to finish it. Don't rent it.

Is tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy a new one? I'm taping it, but my VCR is screwy, and I'm worried I missed the first few minutes. What is the deal with ABC and their schedule? Shows take random hiatuses, and switch airtimes and such. Is anyone else annoyed by this?

Scott and Wendy are here, and we are playing a game called "This Is a Very Solemn Occasion." It's an update on the staring game, where neither person in the pair can laugh. It's impossible not to laugh playing with Wendy and Scott. Those two are crazy. How to play the game (courtesy Scott and Wendy):

You look at your partner straight in the eye. Dead lock. And then, you stare down your partner. That lasts for, like, one second. The one second stare down. And then, you say, in a solemn voice, with a straight face, "This is a very solemn occasion." And then, your partner looks at you, and with the exact same facial features (hard for girls 'cuz they don't shave), says, "Indeed it is." And then, you both look down at the ground, make sure no one stole your shoes, and say, "Ho ho ho." And then, your partner looks at the next person in line and repeats the process after a two second pause for laughter. If you laugh or smile at any point, you're supposed to be out.

There's another game like this. It's hard. "Honey, I love you. Won't you please please smile for me?" It's hard not to laugh. Scott cheats and wiggles his eyebrows like Groucho Marx. Thanks, guys.
